Stainless Steel Wire Mesh

Stainless steel wire mesh is a durable grid made by weaving or resistance-welding stainless steel wires into uniform openings. We supply it in woven and welded forms, with different mesh counts, wire diameters, openings, and grades to meet filtration, screening, separation, guarding, ventilation, and architectural requirements. Its structure can be flexible or rigid depending on the construction method.

Stainless steel wire mesh is made from stainless steel wire—an iron-based alloy containing at least 10.5% chromium. We use this alloy because chromium forms a protective surface layer that improves corrosion resistance. 

Depending on the required environment and performance, we select specific grades, wire diameters, weave patterns, and fabrication methods.

• Iron base: We begin with iron as the primary metal in stainless steel wire. It provides the underlying strength and formability needed to draw fine or heavy wires. The alloying elements added to the iron determine the mesh’s corrosion resistance, mechanical performance, and suitability for demanding applications.
• Chromium content: We use chromium to give stainless steel its defining corrosion-resistant properties. Stainless steel contains at least 10.5% chromium; common Type 304 mesh typically contains approximately 18–20% chromium. This chemistry helps the wire resist oxidation, staining, and deterioration in many operating environments.
• Nickel additions: We use nickel in common austenitic grades to improve corrosion resistance, toughness, and formability. Type 304 is often called “18-8” stainless because it typically contains about 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Nickel helps make mesh dependable for general industrial, food, and architectural uses.
• Molybdenum for 316: We choose Type 316 stainless steel when stronger resistance to chlorides, saltwater, and harsh chemicals is required. Its added molybdenum—commonly about 2–3%—improves corrosion performance beyond Type 304. We commonly recommend this grade for marine, chemical-processing, and high-salinity environments.
• Woven or welded construction: We form the finished product by weaving stainless wires over and under each other or welding crossing wires into a fixed grid. We select woven mesh for precise filtration and flexible screens, while welded mesh offers rigidity, stable openings, and dependable panel strength.
